Nicky Coutts

The photographic series Estates reworks 17th century drawings and paintings of stately homes that were originally commissioned to show already opulent properties to their best advantage. Coutts manipulates each image not just to grow outward, and claim land as was feasible at the time, but to rise upward as though reimagined using modern building technologies, colonising airspace to create tower block ‘estates’.
